To me, this is the ultimate in Shakespearean imagery. Rough wood, rough lettering, rambunctious Shakespearean partying is the essence of this design. A character is raiding the mead barrel; he wears Tudor-style clothing with lace at the neck, slashed and puffed sleeves, and most likely a codpiece as well. His feathered hat has fallen onto the floor; he doesn`t seem to notice as he happily pours the mead into a large stoneware pitcher. It appears he will be enjoying a large quantity of this beverage. Rough, hand-lettered text is mounted across the top and up the sides of this design. Overall, Elizabethan has the look of a woodblock print, and of fun times long, long ago.
